Giants Sign RB Devin Singletary as Saquon Barkley Joins Eagles

Giants Secure Deal with RB Devin Singletary Following Saquon Barkley’s Departure

The New York Giants swiftly addressed the departure of Saquon Barkley by securing a deal with running back Devin Singletary, as reported by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport on Monday.

Singletary’s Consistency and Impact

Singletary, affectionately known as “Motor,” has consistently delivered since entering the NFL in 2019, notably making a significant impact on the Houston Texans’ season in 2023. Despite starting last season as the No. 2 back behind Dameon Pierce, Singletary took over the reins for the final 10 games, showcasing his prowess with a career-high rushing yardage of 898 yards. His average of 71.5 rushing yards per game and four touchdowns during his starting tenure underscored his reliability. Additionally, Singletary’s versatility was evident as he also contributed 30 receptions for 193 yards and even threw a touchdown pass in a notable victory over the Steelers.

Singletary’s Consistency Compared to Barkley’s Explosiveness

While Barkley boasts explosive talent, Singletary’s consistent performance has been a hallmark of his career. Over five NFL seasons, he has consistently amassed between 687 and 898 rushing yards and between 193 and 280 receiving yards. Furthermore, his durability stands out, having missed only one game over the past three seasons, compared to Barkley’s absence of three games last season alone and 25 over his past five seasons.

Standing at 5-foot-7 and weighing 203 pounds, Singletary was a third-round pick (74th overall) of the Buffalo Bills in the 2019 NFL Draft. His familiarity with Giants general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll from their time together in Buffalo likely played a role in his recruitment.

Singletary’s Transition to the Giants

Singletary’s lone encounter with the Giants in 2019 saw him contribute significantly to Buffalo’s victory with a go-ahead touchdown. Now, as he calls MetLife Stadium home, Singletary is poised to step into the shoes left by Barkley and make his mark for the Giants.
